Lake Fork Baptist Church was started January 27, 1997, as a mission church of First Baptist Church Winnsboro with Brother David Smith as the pastor. The church was almost named "Second Chance Baptist Church" because Brother David believed that each person who joined had been given a "second chance" to live for the Lord.

The first service consisted of eight people. The church met in various buildings around the county until the construction of the first church on November 9, 1997. Within four months the church outgrew its first building and began plans to build another church. A second auditorium was built and the church moved into the new building on October 17, 1999. By this time the church had relinquished its missions status and became an autonomous Southern Baptist Church.

In 2002 the church was building yet another new auditorium. The first service was held in the new auditorium on Easter Sunday 2003.

A new Education Building was completed in June 2008 and was named after the founding pastor: J. David Smith Education Building.

This small church that began with eight people has grown to over 2000 in membership with a regular attendance of over 700 people. We give God all the glory for the mighty things He has done and continues to do at Lake Fork Baptist Church.
